Housing Characteristics

 Fanlight is a semicircular or arched window above a door.
Dormer Windows are window set in projection from a sloping roof.
Bay Window is a set of two or more windows that protrude out from the wall. This window is moved out from the wall to provide more light and a wider view.
Casement Window is a window that opens by swinging inward or outward.
Portico is just like a pediment but for a porch and supported by columns or pillars.
This right here would be an Eave. They are the portion of the roof that projects beyond the wall.
Rafter is a roof beaming slope from  the ridges to the wall. Most of the time they are viable is attics.
Sidelights are the glass parts on side of doors.
Turrets are a small tower and are often found on the corner of a building.










Pediment is a triangular crown used over doors, windows, or porches.
Clapboard is a siding. It is a long and narrow board overlapping to cover outer wall.









Palladian Windows are a three part window featuring a large arched center and flanking rectangular sides.

Roofing Styles

A Shed Roof is a simple, one-slope roof; also called a lean-to roof.

 This is a Hipped Roof which has 4 sides that all slope in to meet at a peak.
 Gambrel Roofs ore often found on barns. The roof has 2 different slopes on each of the sides. the bottom slope is always steeper then the top one.
Mansard Roofs has all 4 sides and has 2 slopes. much like a barn but 4  has 4 sides instead of 2.
Saltbox Roof  is a variation of the gamble roof, originally created when a low lean-to addition was built onto the back of a wall house.



Gamble Roof is a roof with 2 sloping sides.
